Downers Grove Dental and Orthodontics

Dr. Brian Del Carlo is an outstanding dentist. He always makes sure I'm comfortable and never in pain, which I really appreciate. His work is top-notch—I've even had other dentists comment on how well my teeth have been taken care of! I trust him completely and highly recommend him to anyone looking for excellent dental care.

My first time visiting Dr. Ryan and his staff Was a little hesitant at first because of previous dentists but this was the best experience ever. Dr. Ryan came up with a solution of dentures breaking that no other dentists mentioned. After thousands of dollars out of pocket due to how many time i had to get repairs and/or new dentures, Dr Ryan knew right away what to do. Hes funny, personable and just plain caring. So glad hes in my network!

I've always liked the dentist, was confused around the social norm of people not being so comfortable there, after this practice switched hands to Downers Grove Dental I now under stand why. I grew up with the dentist doing the cleaning, and the hygienist assisting and managing the suction, here , you're employed to do your own suction on things you can't see. The cleaning is done before the dentist comes in. That may just be a style thing, but I don't prefer it and have found it's not the 'new way to do things' as many other practices still gives you duel attention. My first visit, they were disorganized, asked me if I needed x-rays. I said I wasn't sure, what does my chart say, they said we'd do x-rays. We didn't. The cleaning was getting a little pokey, I was getting a little flinchy. But the sharp object was not removed from my mouth as the hygienist asked if I was feeling pain, answer her, she'll refuse to continue to the cleaning and I will have to leave if I don't communicate. To talk at that time would have meant assisting her in stabbing me. I felt small, and we had to take a break. Dr. Nugent was still at the practice, he came in, we finished calmly and civilized as I was accustomed. I did not see this employee when I came back. Perhaps just bad luck. My next visit Dr. Nugent had just fully retired. Still a solo cleaning experience with the dentist coming after. We did x-rays this time, and the photo capabilities are much better, if you don't mind looking it mouths, downright cool. Cleaning was generally fine, it had been a minute and as a child of the 90's with soda and weak teeth, I have a lot of fillings. But I've had 1 cavity since 18 and I'm 35. Things were calm, maybe some fillings getting old, micro cavities starting. Then the sales pitch. You need a crown in no that long, you have 17 cavities, who did you implants these are terrible (they know who did them, it's in the chart and they worked together) and you have some gingivitis. I'll have to mark it on your insurance so they know but it won't cost you anything. What was marked. Moderate to Severe Gingivitis, it did cost me $60 and they tried to bill my insurance $252. "I don't know how you let your oral health get so bad" was said to me. "We'll need to see you right away and fix everything." I did not schedule an appointment. I went to a new dentist, admittedly 5 cavities between new and old fillings that needed to be replaced. But if it's causing me no pain we're not in a rush (they've been filled), no mention of gingivitis, so I asked. Confirmed no, they asked if I had changed my oral health care since hearing, I had not. My new dentist treated me like a person, Downers Grove Dental treated me like a walking insurance card to be taken advantage of and shamed. Save for the receptionist, who forgive me, I forgot your name, you're the kindest sweetest woman, and the first person to teach me how dental insurance works. You took time and cared. I'm just saying, there are other options out there, going to the Dentist can fun.... other places.

They charge you at the office and then re-bill you a few days later with a garbage excuse about insurance … even though they run that before you pay in the office - how can you perform procedures without knowing the cost? Crazy. Unfortunately I am planning on going again because I already have a follow-up scheduled but if they charge me again a 2nd time after I leave that’ll be my last visit.

My wife and I have been with Dr. Ryan since Elmhurst. After many hot and misses my wife really liked Dr. Ryan’s approach, so needless to say we followed him to Downers Grove. He and his staff are 5 Stars !
