Great modern, spacious and children friendly facility. The administrative staff as well as our new doctor were welcoming, warm, and caring - taking the time to answer all questions. This was our first visit for an annual check up with our 3 children aged 3-8 and we look forward to our next visit! The bonus for our children was to get to pick a new book to bring home. :) Thank you!
Wonderful staff, service, facilities, care, and resources. I have been bringing my children to OBCC since 2018; of course you occasionally encounter someone having a bad day or giving a bit of attitude... We once had a bad experience at the dental clinic as well as ongoing issues with speech therapy services however these incidents are greatly outnumbered by all the positive interactions we have encountered over the years. They deserve a higher overall rating on Google but I do believe the majority of reviewers comment only when they have something bad to say.
This clinic us beautiful and the staff are great. It took me a long time to decide to switch my son from Swedish, but I wanted him to have a doctor of color so I made the switch and have no regrets. His primary is great and his dermatologist Dr. Boos is amazing. Everytine we come it is a top notch experience, and they always take my scheduling needs seriously.
I had a horrible experience at Odessa Brown for my child’s first pediatric appointment four days after his birth. I believe in communicating complaints directly, not on the internet, but the four staff members I spoke with had no interest in listening and simply hung up. At my appointment, my son had lost 11% of his body weight after birth (an induction ending in a c section) and they reacted as though this were a crisis. They were unfamiliar with newer recommendations that the baby’s weight at 24-hours be used as baseline when babies receive fluids that artificially inflates their weight during labor, which would have put him in the normal range. In their aura of panic, the resident and attending brought in a nurse with some training in lactation (but who wasn’t a certified lactation consultant) and proceeded to discuss with each other - in front of us - what to do about the situation for over an hour. They asked no questions about how feeding was going, jumped to conclusions, interrupted us when we tried to provide relevant information or correct their assumptions, ignored me when I started crying, and presented several different conflicting plans. They declined the opportunity to observe a feeding and did not check his mouth for oral ties (later we found out that he had two severe ties which were impacting feeding). They dragged this out over two hours and ignored my attempts to end the appointment to feed my baby as he was overdue to eat, which felt deeply ironic given the situation. We felt trapped because we wanted him to get the RSV vaccine and they wouldn’t bring it out. My goal was to breast feed exclusively; they ignored me when I said I didn’t want to supplement with formula and pushed us to take home cans four times during the appointment. They addressed none of my concerns that introducing a bottle and formula would jeopardize breast feeding, only saying “I promise you it won’t impact breastfeeding,” which was manipulative and paternalistic, as well as untrue in our case. In the end, I followed their recommendations and it effectively ended breastfeeding my child. I’ve since learned that I could have done so much to protect breastfeeding while supplementing such as using low flow nipples, pace feeding, pumping to maintain supply, etc. They explained none of this. There were other issues too. The resident tested our son’s muscle tone while he was sleeping and pronounced him “low tone.” We all have low tone when we sleep; this needs to be done while awake. She also didn’t provide the vaccination schedule we requested. It seemed like she didn’t know. She missed identifying a congenital anomaly with my baby’s ear that our new pediatrician noticed immediately. Residents at Odessa Brown need better supervision. Most galling was the attending wouldn’t hand our baby back to my husband when the exam was over and he started crying. She ignored him and kept cuddling the baby for her own benefit. Finally I had demand him back so I could comfort him. The entitlement was shocking. Four days after birth, baby and parents need one another during moments of distress. The only bright spot was the lovely nurse who comforted me as I was crying after the appointment. She brought me tissues, water, and a pillow so I could nurse my hungry baby. Bottom line: Never have I witnessed providers with such poor communication skills, absent bedside manner, and paternalistic attitudes toward their patients. Do not go here if you want a provider who will support your breastfeeding goals. Do not go here if you want compassionate and knowledgeable care. Do not go here if you expect to be treated as an adult, much less an equal. Odessa Brown needs to take a good hard look at how they handle infant weight gain and feeding issues and why some of their providers have developed such paternalistic attitudes to their patients. I wanted to like Odessa Brown since they fulfill an important role in our community, but the quality of care was abysmal and actively harmed me and my son. What a disappointment.
My kids have gone to Odessa Brown for years. The staff is always kind and helpful. I even moved to Kent but will still be taking my children out to their appointments because this is their home Dr office.
