I have never been a fan of the dentist but not only was the actual dentist amazing and gentle, but the staff was great as well. They were running a little behind but actually took the time to call me ahead of time to let me know so I didn’t come in and sit in the office for the extra time. When being checked in the staff had amazing personalities. Diana was especially great! I would highly recommend this dentist office. - Meghan Short

Columbia Dental Introduce

This introduction addresses Columbia Dental, a dental clinic located at 5 Shaws Cove Ste 207, New London, CT 06320, USA, within the platform category of Dental Clinics. As a platform for local users seeking dental services or related goods, it is crucial to provide an objective overview based on available information. The following introduction is compiled from real customer reviews found on the internet, aiming to present an accurate picture of the clinic's environment, services as perceived by patients, and any notable features or issues raised.

Based on the recent customer reviews, there are significant concerns regarding the environment of Columbia Dental. One reviewer explicitly described the office as "dirty," noting that the front reception area and the bathroom had "stuff all over the floor" and appeared to have not been cleaned adequately for some time. This raises serious questions about the hygiene standards maintained within the clinic, which is a critical aspect of any healthcare facility, especially a dental practice where cleanliness is paramount to prevent infections and ensure patient safety.

The reviews also shed light on the perceived quality and nature of the services provided, particularly concerning wisdom teeth removal. One patient who was referred to Columbia Dental for this procedure reported a negative experience with the dentist they encountered. This patient described the dentist as "very impersonal" and noted the absence of options for managing anxiety, such as laughing gas. Furthermore, the reviewer characterized the procedure as "rough" and reported significant bleeding, which the dentist allegedly commented on with surprise multiple times within earshot of the patient. The patient left the office with considerable swelling and without clear post-operative instructions, expressing concern about potential infection.

Another detailed review paints an even more concerning picture of the clinic's practices, particularly on what was referred to as "Husky Torture Tuesday," allegedly a day when Husky patients are scheduled. This review describes a long wait time, purportedly exacerbated by patients returning with issues from earlier procedures. The reviewer alleges a lack of proper communication and consent procedures, claiming they were not provided with consent forms before the procedure. The administration of local anesthesia was described as rushed and insufficient, leading to the patient experiencing pain during the procedure, which was allegedly met with irritation from the dentist.

This second review further details a chaotic and unprofessional environment, including an assistant being surprised by the lack of adequate numbing administered and the dentist's apparent anger at the patient receiving additional numbing gel from the assistant. The patient also claims they were asked to hold their own suction during the procedure and were made to sign consent forms without being able to read them properly due to being partially numb. The wisdom teeth extraction itself was described as rushed and painful, with a tooth reportedly snapping during the process. Post-operative instructions were allegedly given hastily.

Concerns also extend to the administrative aspects of the clinic. The second reviewer reported receiving the wrong prescription for antibiotics and experiencing significant delays in obtaining the correct medication. The pain management prescribed was deemed inadequate, and when the patient contacted the clinic due to severe pain, they were allegedly informed that other doctors would not assist patients of the dentist who performed the extraction and that due to the "demographic of the area," stronger pain medication would not be prescribed for a surgical procedure involving the removal of four healthy teeth. This raises serious ethical and professional questions about the clinic's pain management protocols and patient care standards.

Based on these two detailed customer reviews, several critical features and significant issues emerge regarding Columbia Dental:

  • Cleanliness Concerns: At least one patient reported the office environment as dirty, raising hygiene concerns.
  • Impersonal and Rough Treatment: Patients described the dentist as impersonal and the procedures as rough and rushed.
  • Inadequate Pain Management: Concerns were raised about the insufficient local anesthesia and post-operative pain relief provided.
  • Lack of Proper Procedures: Allegations of missing consent forms, rushed procedures, and inadequate post-operative instructions were made.
  • Communication Issues: Patients reported a lack of clear communication and unprofessional interactions with the dentist.
  • Administrative Errors: One patient received an incorrect prescription, indicating potential issues with administrative processes.
  • Questionable Patient Care Standards: The alleged refusal to prescribe adequate pain medication based on demographic factors is deeply concerning.

It is important to note that this introduction is based solely on the two provided customer reviews, which are overwhelmingly negative. While these reviews offer a direct insight into some patients' experiences, they may not represent the views of all individuals who have visited Columbia Dental. However, the detailed and serious nature of the complaints warrants significant caution for potential local users considering this dental clinic for their oral healthcare needs.

Given the information available, there is no positive promotional information or features to highlight about Columbia Dental. Instead, potential local users are strongly advised to consider these detailed accounts of negative experiences regarding cleanliness, professionalism, the quality of dental work, pain management, and administrative practices. It would be prudent to seek additional information, perhaps from other sources or by directly contacting the clinic to address the concerns raised in these reviews, before making an informed decision about entrusting Columbia Dental with their oral health.

For local users in New London, CT, who are seeking a dental clinic, it is recommended to thoroughly research and consider multiple options. The experiences shared by these reviewers suggest that there may be significant shortcomings at Columbia Dental that could impact patient safety, comfort, and overall oral health outcomes. It is advisable to look for clinics with consistently positive reviews that emphasize cleanliness, professionalism, patient comfort, clear communication, and appropriate pain management.

In conclusion, based on the provided customer feedback, potential local users should approach Columbia Dental with extreme caution. The reported issues concerning the clinic's environment, the conduct of the dentist, the quality of care, and the administrative processes are significant and should be carefully considered before choosing this clinic for dental services. Further investigation and consideration of alternative dental care providers in the New London, CT area are strongly recommended.
