My mom was seeking a second opinion on treatment for periodontal disease and partial dentures. We couldn’t be happier with the level of care and professionalism we experienced during our recent visit to Aspen Dental in Palatine. The modern facility and cutting-edge technology were impressive, and the team did an incredible job explaining our treatment options with respect, knowledge, and honesty. They were especially considerate of my mom’s feelings, delivering difficult news about her gum disease with compassion and care, which made a tough situation much easier to handle. The doctor, hygienist, x-ray technician, and the team member of the billing department were all excellent!

Absolutely negative experience. The worst! Just a money making chain. I went in with extreme 9/10 pain and significant swelling in my cheek. The doctors there a limited to the “protocol” that aspen bounds them to. They do NOT do what’s best for the patient. I went in for a serious and specific problem yet they kept me there for 2 hours talking about other teeth. I was scheduled for a tooth extraction 2-3 days later, they shrugged it off as if it wasn’t an emergency. Within 24 hours the swelling had doubled in size and the pain was unbearable; and that was after 4 doses of antibiotics. I immediately went back the next day around the time they opened. I was a complete wreck, bawling my eyes out, face, cheek and neck completely swollen! The dentist told me to “calm down” when my pain was 10/10!!!!! Are you kidding me?!? I’m was not irrational because I was upset, I was in the worst pain imaginable! I was beyond terrified thinking I was going to have sepsis! The female dentist, then told me I needed to go to the emergency room to get treated and there was nothing she could do!! ! I was driven to the emergency room where I was immediately given IV antibiotics and morphine and a cat scan. After the swelling started to subside 3 days later I call back Aspen to schedule the tooth extraction and they tell me they will refuse to do it unless I get a tooth cleaning on one day then schedule the extraction on another?!?! I have had teeth pulled before and no where do they refuse to extract an infected tooth because they want to do a “cleaning”… I asked if I went to another dentist, would they do the same procedure prior to a tooth extraction and the MANAGER (not a medical doctor) claimed that every dentist would do this?! She literally said “we need a blank canvas before the extraction can happen”. Then at the end of the conversation she said “At Aspen we are preventive and that’s how we do things” Listen, I’m all about preventive teeth cleaning, but when someone comes in with a major tooth problem that puts them in the EMERGENCY ROOM, the most important issue to to treat the serious problems first then get to the rest. Again, this business chain limits how the doctors treat you. This is not a place that does what’s best for the patient. Them telling me to wait put me in the ER! Please never go there is you have a tooth emergency!!! They will make you wait and like me, you may possibly need to go to the emergency room because they didn’t treat you when you needed it. Aspen is fine if you want just preventive care and they will gladly take your money and make you commit to a treatment plan that uses up all your insurance. I’m not knocking the business for non dental emergencies but I would have had much more respect if they were upfront in telling me that they won’t or can’t treat me. UPDATE: I was seen at another clinic within 1 hour after posting. They actually listened to my story which they classified as traumatic. They took X-rays locally where the problem was and extracted it immediately. They didn’t try to sell me plans and talk about my gum health or bi annual cleanings. They actually cared about my health and the severity of my pain. Most importantly, They assured me that my tooth extraction should have NOT been dependent on a getting a mouth cleaning!

Red flag #1: Scheduled a standard cleaning appointment and no one cleaned my teeth! Red flag #2: After my appointment, when I asked the “office manager” why no one had cleaned my teeth, they were unapologetic and said verbatim “there isn’t even a dental hygienist here right now”. Red flag #3: Then they attempted to present a “bill” that would have to be paid right then and there, for the NEXT appointment…? - No wonder there are other comments about issues with insurance coverage. Red flag #4: This “bill” included things that were NOT discussed with me by the dentist and were very costly. Overall: Absolute waste of time. Insane business model that is clearly a money grab. DO NOT GO!

I am visiting this place since 2 yrs now, for my general cleaning. I am glad i chose this branch. the staffs are friendly. The hygienists are caring and careful performing procedures. Recently , i had to do filling on my teeth with cavity. the doctor was patient to answer all my questions before drilling and filling my teeth. With the fear i had on the pain related to my filling , i felt comfortable by the way she operated. I would sure recommend this place .
