Using Multimedia Tools for Effective Oral Health Education

Oral Health Education and Digital Media

Oral health is of paramount importance, especially for children. Early education and prevention are key to establishing good oral hygiene habits that can last a lifetime. Digital media has emerged as a powerful tool in disseminating health information, and its potential in oral health education is vast.

Study Protocol and Methodology

This study investigates the influence of digital media in the oral health education of mother-child pairs. It is a parallel double-blind randomized clinical trial, aiming to determine if educational videos sent through WhatsApp Messenger, in addition to conventional oral health education, can lead to improved oral hygiene outcomes. The sample consists of 100 mother-child pairs, divided into control and experimental groups. Before and after the intervention, various measurements and evaluations will be conducted, including plaque index, gingival bleeding index, and number of decayed, missing, and filled teeth. Questionnaires will also be used to assess oral health literacy and socioeconomic data.

Expected Outcomes and Implications

The results of this study are expected to have significant implications for the control of biofilms and caries disease in mother-child pairs. It could pave the way for more effective health prevention and educational programs, emphasizing the importance of regular dental consultations and the role of parents, especially mothers, in supervising children's oral hygiene. The use of multimedia tools in oral health education holds great promise for improving overall oral health and setting the stage for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

In summary, this study aims to assess the effectiveness of using multimedia tools, specifically WhatsApp Messenger, for oral health education among mother-child pairs. By comparing traditional methods with the addition of digital media, it hopes to provide valuable insights into improving oral hygiene behaviors and outcomes. The ultimate goal is to promote better oral health for children and their mothers, emphasizing the significance of early and continuous education in this crucial aspect of health.
