Willamette Dental Group - Portland - Jefferson

I have been with Willamette Dental for about 20 years. 10 years as an adult and 10 years as a kid. My recent experiences have led me to seek different dental insurance. For 6 years, I went out of my way to receive dental care here because I liked this office. Then my dentist retired without notifying me and apparently no other dentists at the clinic are accepting new patients, so I have to go elsewhere. Needless to say, it's unprofessional to treat long time clients this way. The first dentist I saw here left too, but she notified me and I was able to see another dentist in the same office. I've felt for a few years now that the vibes here have gone downhill. I even overheard staff in a backroom talking about how they wished they could go work somewhere else. People just don't seem happy working here the way that they used to. I don't know if it's because Goose Hollow deteriorated or because Willamette Dental went downhill or both. In the past, I mostly had great experiences with the hygienists here, they're generally friendly and as gentle as possible. But at my last cleaning the hygienist seemed straight up grumpy, she was rough, and she scolded me repeatedly. I was polite and patient with her even though for the first time in my life I wanted to get up and run out during a dental cleaning. I generally have a high pain tolerance, but this hurt. It felt like she did an unscheduled deep cleaning without local anesthesia. When she polished my teeth at the end she leaned her body weight into it and it felt like my front teeth might break or at least have enamel damage. When I raised my concerns with other staff I was told by a dental assistant that she is the best hygienist they have and that she has worked there the longest. I was told it hurt more because she does a better job than anyone else. So does that mean every other hygienist I've seen there over the years does subpar work? I doubt that. The assistant also said that particular hygienist is the only one she allows to clean her teeth because she is so good. I asked if that was a deep cleaning I'd just received, the assistant said no. Later, the aftercare paperwork I was sent home with stated I had had received "scaling and root planing" which in my experience means a deep cleaning. Unfortunately, it took me months to work up the mental fortitude to schedule another cleaning and exam, only to be told my long time dentist left. In the past, when I went to a Willamette Dental in Corvallis during college I had 3 different dentists because 2 of them moved away. I was notified each time and I was able to stay at the same clinic. Like many people, I have dental anxiety, so it takes a while for me to build trust in my care providers. I would appreciate continuity of care, respect, courtesy, and communication. Instead, I got kicked out of a clinic that I went out of my way to return to because I had positive experiences there as a child.

My sister came in and the OWNER made fun of her, called her a junkie & refused to work on her teeth "You don't take care of them anyway so I'm not going to bother" My sister uses no drugs at all. Her tooth was infected and she is now in the ER This isn't even the first issues I personally have had with them. What they do is have you make multiple short appointments for the simplest things to get more money from insurance. They are trying to cheat your insurance. Good luck Dr. Eugene Skourtes

Great staff! From checking in, to my cleaning, to my dental work plan, everyone was great! Scott, Juan, and Dr. Metz all did a wonderful job making me feel heard, informed, comfortable, and confident about me dental journey. There were a couple assistants that were also sweet and helpful. Highly recommend ?

Appointment take forever. They set multiple appointments when they should just treat you then. Dentist was inpatient. I hate I’m paying insurance for this treatment

I've been going to Willamette Dental in the Goose Hollow office off of Jefferson for YEARS now, and I have no intention of stopping. Everyone that I've worked with there is fantastic, but Dr. Skourtes in particular is just off-the-charts great. He's the best dentist I've ever encountered, hands down and I trust him with the only teeth I have. I recommend this office to literally everyone I know and was honestly surprised that I hadn't left this review sooner. The office facilities themselves are great, the staff is super friendly and helpful, it's easy to schedule with them, everything you might need is under one roof, and so it hits all the marks. Going to the dentist can be the worst, but I find myself happy when I'm heading in and even happier when I'm walking out. And I can't say how thankful I am to know that if I have a dental emergency, each dentist keeps appointments available so that if something came up I could work with Dr. Skourtes directly. I've been of the opinion for quite some time now that the entire justification for human civilization as we know it is to make modern dentistry available, and I have immense gratitude to have personal access to such proper magicians as Dr. Skourtes and his team. Some dentists suck. These don't. Go here.

Dr. Peters is the first dentist I’ve ever liked and I didn’t find her until I was 35 yrs old. I can’t imagine ever switching! I have hears good things about the other dentists here as well though, and I’ve never had a bad experience with any hygienist here. I do commend Gabe, in particular, for the most pleasant cleaning of my life! He was so attentive, gentle and kind. This place has completely healed my fear of going to the dentist!
