After almost a year of therapy, I feel like I can finally open up about an experience that took a huge toll on my life. This isn't just a case of being overly sensitive; it's a very real experience. If you ever encounter Dr. Martz, please reconsider before allowing him to work on your teeth. He approaches his practice with more of a sales mentality than that of a healthcare professional, and I've found him to be less than honest. To summarize, letting Dr. Martz put veneers on my teeth led me down a year-long path of severe depression, and it's been a non-stop struggle to get back to feeling like myself. I don't enjoy sharing this very personal story online, but I feel compelled to do so to prevent anyone else from enduring what I went through. After moving to Vegas, I needed a new dentist, and Dr. Martz's reviews looked promising, so I began visiting him for general dentistry. I was impressed with his general work and trusted him. Occasionally, he mentioned that he also specialized in cosmetic dentistry, and since there were two teeth I wanted to improve, I decided to have a consultation with him. During the consult, Dr. Martz showed me a zoomed-in, poorly lit image of my teeth that made them look terrible--something I now realize is a common sales tactic. (Several of his current patients have since told me they've had similar experiences.) I had never felt such a strong dislike for my teeth before, and that moment ignited a deep sense of insecurity.Furthermore, Dr. Martz boasted about being a "teeth artist," claiming he could create a natural-looking smile using a high-end lab, much like the renowned Dr. XXX, but at a lower price. He even dropped names who visit his office, like Carlos Santana and Kate Beckinsale (he mentioned Beckinsale was supposedly referred to him by Dr. XXX's office to enhance his credibility. After having my teeth redone by Dr. XXX, I can confidently say Dr. XXX would never refer anyone to Dr. Martz).(Note: I'm using XXX's for the dentist's name because I don't want his name associated with this unfortunate situation. I hold him in high regard).Dr. Martz proposed a plan for my teeth that involved starting with 10 veneers on the top, followed by whitening my lower teeth and using Invisalign to straighten them. I later found out that this sequence was entirely incorrect, and unfortunately, my lower teeth can no longer be straightened. Now, the only option is to add more veneers. After the procedure, I was horrified. The final veneers were nothing like the temporaries. They were huge, blindingly white, and looked so unnatural. I had trouble speaking, especially pronouncing "s" sounds, and couldn't open my mouth properly.I returned to Dr. Martz to express my concerns, and he assured me that he would stay in touch to help find a solution. That promise was never fulfilled, and what was once a welcoming office and a supportive dentist changed their demeanor after I had made my payment. This all led to one of the darkest times in my life. I felt trapped and hid from the world because of my hideous smile. Eventually, with all the strength I had left, I got my veneers redone by Dr. XXX, who gave me natural-looking veneers, restoring my confidence, appearance, and ability to speak normally. Finally, obtaining a refund for the prepaid whitening and Invisalign treatments I no longer wanted due to Dr. Martz's massive mistake in planning became a nightmare. He dragged out the process for months and then insisted I hadn't paid for those services, despite my having the receipts. Moreover, he refused to offer any compensation for the terrible veneers that I had to have redone. In sharing this deeply personal experience, I hope to shed light on the importance of choosing the right professional for such a significant procedure. Please be cautious and do your research thoroughly when choosing a cosmetic dentist. I genuinely appreciate everyone who took the time to read my story, and I hope it helps you or someone you know avoid a similar experience. - Nicole Hulsey
