Customer Reviews
I have been going here for many years and have not had problems until recently. There is no internal communication between the different departments or even between different providers. I had an ADHD eval after waiting for several months and was told at my next regular appointment I would be able to discuss treatment options. At said appointment, my doctor had no idea I had been evaluated and I was told that I can't be treated because of the medications I am currently on... meds that they prescribed me and should have already known I was taking. I have now been told I will have to wait even longer to speak to different provider and they even said it would probably be better for me to look for another practice independently as it would likely be faster. They're good for PrEP and STI screenings, but it doesn't seem that any of their current providers care about issues beyond that. UPDATE: Within 24 hours I was reached out to by the Behavioral Health staff with numerous available appointments in the next two months and was able to schedule. This is the level of care that I've always associated with Equitas and I'm very happy my situation was resolved; it would just be nice if the left hand knew what the right hand was doing.
I really like my PCP, but the move to 15 minute appointments is a mistake. Leaving a one star review so that they feel some public pressure to give medical professionals more time with their patients. I’ve never felt like the problem at my appointments was “too much time.” You’re overworking your kind, professional staff members, and it’s deplorable.
In the past I have sung nothing but praises for Equitas....I have had great PCP's there, and their pharmacists are great. Although scheduling has been a pain in the butt recently. The main thing I've had an issue with is case management. A HUGE lack of or NO communication by its case managers (or at least my currently assigned one). Has been soooo much "restructuring" in "the organization" over the last couple years (including very recently) it's not funny!! It took me filing a grievance for my case manager to email me after I had asked about some assistance 2 months ago, and had sent a follow-up about 1.5 months ago. 2 MONTHS IS ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE TO NOT HEAR SOMETHING BACK!! And actually I had asked for this specific assistance 4 months ago It wasn't until 2 months ago that it was acknowledged. Yes, I filed a grievance, and have been including a number of people in the organization in my email communications as of late! Completely despicable, the treatment of its clients/patients. But since I'm in communication with multiple people, perhaps my situation will change and that they will take note of many of the issues that plague their organization and start to rectify them. And when, and if, my issues are taken care of... maybe....and that's a BIG maybe....I'll be so inclined to update/change my review to reflect the better care. Equitas, your motto or mission is "CARE FOR ALL!" You need to start practicing what you preach and live it out by how you treat your patients/clients. WE are what keeps your doors open. I worked in healthcare for 6 years, and if I treated patients the way you have, I would've been terminated. CARE FOR ALL!! Every one of your employees should embody and embrace that motto!! Your patients should get such good care (and used to), that they are made to feel as if they are the only person that matters to you. When I had Dr. Para...he LIVED THAT STATEMENT OUT!! The Short North center is named after him! I know good and well he'd be extremely upset to see the things going on there these days!! He was my doctor for many years before he retired. But his retirement was needed AND deserved! Your organization should be ashamed of how downhill it's gone since he left!
Outside of the PCP’s, Equitas staff and administration is mired in gross incompetence and lackadaisical behavior. I had a referral from my PCP that took two months to process. It was for tachycardia and I was very anxious about this issue. I finally had to track down the director of patient experience to expedite the referral. This was not the first instance (that I had) where a referral was not processed in a timely manner. The excuse is that the staff is backlogged and a referral can’t be processed right away. What if this is for a severe issue? Is this also subject to unnecessary delay? I’ve had other issues as well but they are too numerous to elaborate here. I’ve noticed that on other Google reviews the patient experience rep “cuts and pastes” a canned response to every complaint. They don’t even have the good grace to make an individual response to each complaint. I’m well aware that many doctors have “fled” this organization and I’m not surprised. If you want concerned quality treatment go elsewhere. You will not get it here.
Update: Despite my poor experience with admin staff, the actual medical staff have been nothing but great. Updated to 3 stars. Original: I showed up at 8:40 for a 9am appointment, got "checked in", and was handed a few remaining forms to fill out as a new patient which were returned before 09:00. I waited and waited until 09:30 when the receptionist calls me up to inform me that she "checked me in too late" and the practitioner would no longer see me today because I essentially missed the appointment. She was very apologetic and would try to speak with the provider but they were currently with a patient and who knows how long it would be until they were done. Instead I was rescheduled for 3 weeks later. I understand people make mistakes but checking people in is literally her primary job and I was there 20 minutes early, 50 minutes total. Completely unacceptable.
From scheduling, to front desk, provider treatment, and the pharmacy, I cannot give enough stars. The service was friendly, professional, and top-notch! I had an excellent experience with David P. during my PrEP follow-up visit. He was absolutely amazing—extremely knowledgeable, professional, and approachable. David thoroughly reviewed my chart and took the time to answer all of my questions, ensuring I fully understood everything we discussed. His bedside manner was exceptional, making me feel completely at ease throughout the visit. I truly appreciated his attention to detail and the care he provided. Highly recommend him to anyone seeking a compassionate and skilled provider!
I would strongly, sincerely, enthusiastically urge anyone to avoid EQUITAS HEALTH. They act like they support LGBTQ+ individuals just to get business. They love to refer out care so they won't have to write prescriptions and actually hear about my needs.and my visits with (female)DR LARRY DALE SHANNON (Yes this is a real person) were curt, quiet, and quick. I was a patient for about
