Patient Review 1:

“My experience with DDS Benjamin Lewis, in Fort Myers, Fl., at Costal Dental, was traumatizing, clear medical neglect and abuse!! My first (and ONLY) visit to Costal Dental was scheduled as an Emergency visit with DDS Benjamin Lewis. Acute Pain, Decayed Tooth and Abscess located in my upper mandible (as clearly seen on x-ray & confirmed by his hygienist. At the time of my visit, my fractured tooth had some (but not all) portion remaining past the gum line. Upon being taken into the exam room, I was given X-rays and spoke briefly with the dental assistant, then the hygienist greeted me and she explained that he (the dentist) was running a little behind but would be with me shortly. The hygienist told me that the abscess was up in my mandible bone, an that usually indicates extraction but she stated ‘he doesn’t really do extractions’ I sat waiting for the dentist feeling like something was off/odd. And,

BEFORE Mister Lewis even saw me, looked at my X-rays or administered an ANY exam, I heard him verbally instruct his dental assistant to ‘set her up with a payment plan for a root canal and procedure’

I knew then what was ‘off’…

He made a medical decision before he ever even saw my chart or examined the tooth. He finally approached the exam room and never even greeted me or said hello or anything. He aggressively asked if I signed my financial agreement, and he insisted that I have a root canal and crown.

‘I DON’T DO EXTRACTIONS’, is what he said very loudly!

When I asked him why he was making that medical decision, because (EVERY patient has a right to INFORMED consent of medical treatment) He became enraged that I asked for a medical explanation and he told me that he is the doctor, I am not the doctor and he makes the decisions NOT me. He literally verbally abused me for exercising my right to informed consent and fair medical treatment. Further, he blatantly used extortion by coercion when he flat out told me if I didn’t agree to sign the financial agreement and consent to the procedures he was demanding that I needed to leave.

Since he was billing my insurance for the visit, before I stood up to leave, I asked him for an antibiotic prescription, he REFUSED. I had pieces of my decayed tooth coming out - Literally crushed bone fragments , while I was sitting in the exam chair!! I tried to show him and he laughed in my face.

I got up to leave and he

followed me to the front of the office and yelled at me in the lobby in front of patients in the waiting room. When I asked for my medical records he told me that he didn’t have to ‘DO or GIVE ME ANYTHING’ The girl behind the desk, Marylin (who was attempting to be kind) gave me a photo copy my X-ray images. I left in absolute SHOCK and in tremendous pain, I now have to see an oral surgeon to have my tooth cut out due to Benjamin Lewis refusing to extract my tooth, causing damage to the extent it can no longer be extracted! It could have been a fairly simple procedure of extraction that’s now turned into extensive oral surgery. Not to mention the significant impact of increased cost for oral surgery and increased risk of sepsis.

After reading the reviews posted by other victims of his maltreatment and medical abuse, I am appalled that this dentist has a license to practice. This is simply a review of his ‘service’ however I will file formal complaints against his person and practice. It’s so evident that he’s been abusing patients for years. His patient reviews are astonishing. If you value your life, health and safety, STAY AWAY FROM DDS BENJAMIN LEWIS. If you have been victimized by DDS Benjamin Lewis, and wish to join me in taking legal action against him, please reach out at: legalassistantdawn@gmail.com

Fortunately I have worked as a legal assistant for many years and I happen to know what patient rights are. For anyone having these types of experiences, you don’t have to tolerate the abuse, you can speak up. Narcissist like to make the victim look crazy. Soooo I anticipate his denial or utter ignoring my review, but the truth always prevails.”

Patient Review 2:

“What a joke! I will never ever go here again! First they changed my appointment time without consulting with me first. Then I go in and they want me to pay for xrays, even though the xrays are covered by my insurance. They have their own ‘fee’. I refused and they told me I couldn't do the exam. So I just decided to pay for it. Then the dental hygienist does her exam to check my gums. I'm then brought into another room where there is a virtual dentist thay looks at my xrays and tells me I have no cavities. The real dentist is suppose to see me later, but he's ‘super backed up’. So then the hygienist cleans my teeth and tells me that i have a cavity and I need to come back to see the real dentist. Absolute circus. They only want to rip people out of their insurance money.”
