Both of my kiddos go to Cool Mountain Kids, we've been going for at least 5+ years! My son has always had anxiety and I won't forget the first time we went, Dr.Derek and his staff were so calm and helped him thru it all, he isn't afraid to go anymore! Derek also explains everything and will answer any questions (my son has some teeth issues, so it eases our minds). He's very friendly, along with his awesome staff. My daughter is a few years younger and she also has had an amazing experience, she's so happy to be a part of their cavity free club! I also have to give kudos to the front desk and scheduling ladies. Everyone is absolutely exceptional. Highly recommend this amazing place and people!
I wish I could give this place five stars. A few years ago, I would have! The dentist here is an amazing guy who’s super friendly towards kids, very passionate, gentle, and patient with children. However, the staff felt very cold yesterday and made me feel uncomfortable. Yesterday, I took my 7-year-old, who has been coming to this location since he was little, and my 1-year-old for his first dental visit. My kids and I were not greeted well by the rest of the staff. They hardly spoke to us and even gave me a hard time for saying no to fluoride varnish—something I've chosen isn’t right for my kids because everyone in my family, including my husband, has had bad reactions to it. The dentist himself has never made me feel bad for avoiding this product, but the dental assistants or hygienists gave me weird looks, making me feel like I’m a horrible parent for keeping my kids' safety in mind. They usually make it fun for my kids, like letting them pick the toothpaste flavor or the color of the toothbrush they want to take home after the visit. This wasn’t the case at all yesterday. In fact, my 7-year-old, who’s been coming for years, was a bit upset after leaving because he had no control over the flavor of the toothpaste. It's funny because, as an adult, you wouldn’t care too much, but as a picky kid who’s always been involved in the decision, it was a bit upsetting. The whole time we were in the office yesterday, only the dentist talked to me and my kids, asked us how we were, and made it exciting for them. That’s pretty sad. I hope this reaches the right people because I don’t want to leave the office, but I expected so much better from the staff. I want my kids to be more acknowledged and to feel like the staff cares. This isn’t something you would expect from a place geared towards kids. In the future, this place needs to hire people who actually love kids, make them feel excited and welcome, and give choices back to the kids on small things like the flavor of toothpaste or the color of the toothbrush they want to bring home after their visit. As a parent, I shouldn’t be made to feel bad for choosing what is best for my children. My child has never had a cavity, and just because I choose to avoid something that has harmed me and made me very sick doesn’t make it a negative thing. I'm glad the dentist himself has never been judgmental about this, but the employees should never show judgment either. At the end of the day, kids should leave feeling like they had control, felt welcome, informed, and empowered. Parents should leave with confidence that they chose the right place. It takes words of kindness and compassion to work with kids. I am someone who takes that passion seriously because I also work with kids. I hope the staff can shape up and change because the dentist here has been wonderful, but the staff need to remember this is a job with kids. Kids need just as much care as adults, and this shouldn’t be just a job—it should be treated as a passion.
My son and I have only been here once but so far I can say everyone was super nice and welcoming. Dr Derrick and his assistant Cynthia were every helpful and answer all my questions and concerns I had about my one year old. The billing lady was really helpful and help me find a payment plan that worked for us.
I have always been impressed with Dr. Derick’s office and team! I totally expected my kids to be the ones to go crazy (because they tend to be the wild/crazy kids in general) but they are very good at distracting at the right times and walking the kids through each step! Highly recommended!
My family loves this office!! Dr. Miller and the entire team is so great with the kids. We have never had to wait long for our appointments and the kids love the prize machines after their appointments. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a great pediatric dentist!
My son has special needs. He is wheelchair bound, tube-fed, and non-verbal. Dr. Derek and all of the office staff are always so gentle with him. It's hard to find dentists that are comfortable working with kids with disabilities. I feel so blessed to have found this dental office.
