I recently visited Dr. Kai, a new dentist in the area, to replace two veneers. I emphasized that I preferred the veneers to be lighter rather than darker, as my long-term goal is to brighten my smile by gradually replacing others. Unfortunately, both veneers placed were noticeably darker than my surrounding teeth. Dr. Kai agreed to replace one veneer (the canine) at no additional cost but refused to address the second unless I committed to six more veneers at $12,000. While he offered to “replace both for free” under that condition, it felt manipulative since I had already paid $4,000 for the initial work. When I suggested paying $500 toward the second veneer as a fair compromise, Dr. Kai declined, insisting on the full $2,000. Meanwhile, the replacement canine veneer caused prolonged sensitivity despite assurances my tooth structure would remain unaffected, leaving me hesitant to make further changes. To add to my frustration, I was asked to sign a form mid-procedure acknowledging I’d bear future costs for adjustments—an unprofessional move given I was already correcting an oversight. I believe dentists should stand behind their work to ensure patient satisfaction, particularly when concerns are raised promptly. While I wish Dr. Kai success as he builds his practice, I would caution patients about his ability to match veneer colors effectively. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this office.
