He said we could do the graft procedure one more time if I wanted, and he emphasized that he wouldn't charge me for it this time around. I admired this actually, but held off as I was traveling soon. A few months later I came back and told him I was ready.... And he quotes me the same $5k price! He claims he never said he wouldn't charge and his notes from that day were ambiguous ('discuss charge if necessary'). What a weasel. Ultimately I ended up going to a different periodontist who fixed the problem using a laser technique that Meltzer had never mentioned to me as a possibility.
